Journey to Bethlehem
St Peters is delighted to welcome children and whānau on our Journey to Bethlehem. Visit four stations in our beautiful historic church, each focusing on one part of the Nativity story – the story of the baby Jesus’ birth – the story of Christmas.
There are stories to read, activities to do and things to take away at each station. We hope that as you journey through the church you will come to know the Nativity story more deeply.
About St Peter's on Willis Street
St Peter’s on Willis is an Anglican parish and part of the province of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand, and Polynesia. Our doctrine is built upon Scripture, the ancient creeds, distinctive ways of worship, doctrinal statements, important texts, and continuing discussion.
We affirm the goodness of God’s creation in each human being, putting into practice our love of God and neighbour by embracing and including all in every aspect of worship; regardless of sex, gender, sexual orientation, race, or faith. We seek to create a space that is safe physically, spiritually, and emotionally for all.
St Peter’s is dedicated to the transformation of our neighbourhood. We partner with many non-profit organizations, the city council, and other faith organisations to enact a vision of a more just and loving Wellington. St Peter's has a long and rich history of advocating for social justice, especially for the last, the lost, and the least.
An Anglican church has occupied this site since 1847, situated between Te Aro Pā and Pipitea Pā. The present building has stood since 1879 and has strong historical value for the city, and strong spiritual and commemorative associations for the generations of parishioners who have worshipped in it.
